So tonight is the opening of a new club night I am doing called CLOSER, check out the FB event HERE Closer is a fresh collaboration between Tokyo Sky, Deconstruction.
Expect an alternative music experience every Thursday night, filled with the music we love, beautiful visuals and an electrifying venue.
We are playing with traditional formulas and mixing it up. The chemistry is volatile, the result is alchemy.
It’s a new residence for alternative music and culture in a non- traditional setting.
Each week will feature Deconstruction and guest DJ’s with a blend of visuals, art and fashion, which is all incorporated through a dance floor, an open lounge area and exhibition spaces.
Come through early, share a Bento box and enjoy a drink at the restaurant lounge and get in free.
*** OPENS 25th March, floor opens at 8 30 pm ***
with DJ's ♥ The Klassikist ♥ Destrukto ♥ Claudia ♥ Infidel and more more more
expect - drinks specials - R100 Bento Box, drink and free entrance - relaxing sky lounge with visuals and concert footage - giveaways on the night and via the Facebook groups
and UPCOMING GIGS: with DESMOND AND THE TUTU'S and CUTOUT COLLECTIVE on the 1st April
The Hidden Cameras Underage (Holy F*** Remix) Holy F***’s take on The Hidden Cameras original, trades that act’s kraut-rock tendencies for a naivety usually found in Scandinavian indie-pop, which serves to hammer home that “Underage” is about a pining for lost innocence. The Hidden Cameras - Underage (Holy F*** Remix) Hidden Cameras MySpandexHidden Cameras Web
Romy Sleep (The Juan MacLean Remix) The Juan MacLean has gone and turned in another unfailingly jacking remix, this time for rising Australian singer Romy and her single “Sleep.” Is there a more appropriate hook for this than “Teach me / How to sleep / Because it’s way past midnight / And I’m still on the dancefloor”? Romy - Sleep (The Juan MacLean Remix)
Kenan Bell T.G.I.F. (feat. Aceyalone) “T.G.I.F.”—an adverb-heavy, anthem featuring L.A. veteran Aceyalone–is the precedent MPfree we’ve been stoking our brainfires with this morning. Kenan Bell - T.G.I.F. (feat. Aceyalone) Kenan Bell MySpandex
MGMT Flash Delirium Behold, the first taste of MGMT’s hotly anticipated sophomore album, which, judging by “Flash Delirium,” will be a weird and wild swim into Sgt. Pepper-style waters. MGMT - Flash Delirium MGMT Web
Earl Greyhound Ghost And The Witness New York power trio Earl Greyhound and their riff-clutching, Zep-adoring r.o.c.k. don’t really fit amongst the current Brooklyn zeitgeist. “Ghost And The Witness” is the first maelstrom unleashed from Suspicious Package, their new LP. The most tantalizing thing we can say about it is DRUM SOLO. Earl Greyhound - Ghost And The Witness Earl Greyhound Web
HEALTH In Heat (Javelin Remix) Javelin kind of pulled the short stick on this one, saddled with the unenviable task of revamping “In Heat,” Get Color’s bruising, grating, noisebomb of an opener. Dudes take the difficult source material in stride though, finding a sweet spot somewhere between old school b-boy fodder and squishy nu-funk synth twinkling. Right, sorry this has taken so long, unfortunaely my father passed away this weekend from a long battle against pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately we weren't permitted to go to his memorial service as we had an extremely strained relationship with him. So much so that I had not spoken to him in 9 years untill last year December (and with good reason). I never got to see him, which I am actually fine with as he had contributed nothing to my life for 35 years. Still, it was sad that someone could still be that bitter towards the end that he wouldn't want to seek closure and redemption from those he wronged the most. Anyhoo, it was his decision and I for one will not miss him at all. It was also sad to know that he never really got to know myself, my brother and my sister and their wonderful kids, his life would have been enrichened immeasurably and he probably would have lived longer, but then, it is how it is. All I will say is, if you are a parent (well, namely you dad, Mom was ALWAYS there for us, I consider myself a product of her and all you did was contribute to my inception) going through a divorce with young children, always make sure you put them first and treat them with respect and above all love. It was strange sitting there at the viewing of the casket in Brits (ugliest town on the planet) and feeling no sadness or sorrow, just indifference for a man who died as he lived, sad, bitter, twisted and angry, and THAT'S sad. I feel sorry and sad for my brother who tried so hard to reconcile with him to no avail. Anyway, Barrymore Tucker, RIP, I hope you find the peace in death that you couldn't find find in life: 2nd August 1940 - 13th March 2010, a life poorly lived. My mother kept asking me to try and remember the good times, I can't
This post is dedicated to Stacey-Lee who tragicly taken from us last week friday night
As mentioned, on a more somber note, a friend of mine (not close, we met a few times and chatted over facebook, was supposed to meet for drinks in London when I was there last, but didn’t get to) was killed on Friday night by a taxi going through an intersection. I am saddened by this as she was a lovely person whom had just returned to South Africa from London started a new business and was generally excited about the prospects. I last saw her at Cool Runnings in Fourways along with her friend and business partner Daniele, please look at this blog set up as a remembrance for her Stacey-Lee Wilkinson the post by my good friend Steven Brimelow is worth a read as well. Another light has been extinguished too soon.
I spoke to my father yesterday, he is suffering from pancreatic cancer, he seems to be getting worse, I hope I get to see him before anything happens.
And now, you have to read this story of this POW dude,if ever you think you have it bad, read this guys story, you don't have it bad, life is beautiful and managable: POW survival story to end all survival stories, from WWII, insane And then, one of those "Where are they now" stories, I always had a soft spot for the Thompson Twins, they were HUGE for a few years in the 80's, as big as Duran Duran for a while, they mde FANTASTIC pop music with an eclectic and weird twist...
Anyhoo, music heals all matters of woes, my heart is heavy, but I find solace in excellent music and it doesn’t come more excellent than my good friend Richard and his brother Roberts Biscope:

Well, that’s everyone that has submitted tracks to me this week, now it’s time for RCRD LBL and its usual awesomeness: Shout Out Louds Fall Hard (Passion Pit’s Summertime Radio Mix) This rerub for Sweden’s Shout Out Louds slows but doesn’t sully that jubilant floatiness that is Passion Pit, and, if we’re being honest, also sort of sounds like Yoshimi-era Flaming Lips, which is hardly a bad thing. Shout Out Louds - Fall Hard (Passion Pit's Summertime Radio Mix) Shout Out Louds Web Penguin Prison Something I’m Not “Something I’m Not” is twitchy, hyper-emotive soul owes a lot to MJ—but it’s also wholly futuristic, a groundswell of icy nano-synths and nimble-fingered programming. Basically, the kind of pop that makes you want to wear suits all the time. Penguin Prison - Something I’m Not Penguin Prison Mon Espacio
Quasi Repulsion “Repulsion” sounds like the opposite of its title (it’s melodic in a careening way) and, like the band, is full-throttled, shambolic but finessed and the pinnacle of giving 150%. Quasi – Repulsion The Quasi Mon EspacioQuasi Web
And to end this with an AWESOME video, been out for a while, it has a HUGE amount of hits, sent this band from unknowns to internet sensations, wicked 8-bit…Thanks Renate:
Okay, thanks for reading and stuff, life seems more precious the more it is taken away from around us, live to the fullest that you can, love in the purest way possible and be as selfless as you can be. Peace
