Miike Snow new remix:
When we first debuted music from Miike Snow, those involved in the project still remained unknown. But after some time and scoop giving, we know that the trio consists of Swedish heavy-hitters Bloodshy & Avant (aka Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, the two producers and songwriters behind Britney Spears' "Toxic") and Fires Of Rome leadman Andrew Wyatt. We still have no idea what the creepy moose/rabbit/nuclear warhead lovechild thing is above, though.
After roping in some serious remixers for their own benefit, the Snow dudes have done the same for this band called Vampire Weekend, revamping (ha!) recent single "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance" with the bubbly epic house pads and expansive textures they've perfected in their own tunes. This is the only place to pick this one up so don't sleep!

My FIRST remix plus some cool free shit from Nile-On, namely NASA and Metronomy

Soooo, the good folk over at Ohh Crapp sent me some tracks to try and see what I could do with them from a remix perspective, the brief was "These are the original tracks, but that's where the real challenge resides - It doesn't have to be a remix of the whole track, you can use as much as a 1 second sample or even the whole thing if you thought you can come up with something good. It could be a remix or a Dub, but please not edits as this is a challenge to see how you can cast your sound/style over these tracks."
These were the tracks:
Panda Bear - I'm Not
Air - Napalm Love
Portishead - The Rip

We chose Air, coz we could, and we did and this is the result:
Air vs Jay-Z - 99 Problems vs Napalm Love (Emaill Chekkerr vs Destrukto vs Infidel Gin In My Pocket Remix)
This is my very first ever remix, there was also a LOT of beer involved, a LOT!!
Hit me with some comments if you like it or don't, anything, some critique, I am always willing to learn. We did it in Ableton Live, used a Moog Emulator as well as added some drums, it was REALLY fun!!! Tim Apter was the main genius behind this, that would be Email Chekkerr, part of Double Adapter part of Cutout Collective!

Meanwhile, the good folks over at Nile-On hit me with this fine track:
N.A.S.A. - Whachadoin? (Villains Remix)
Album Info NASA MySpazz NASA Website Villains MySpazz
They also gave me this for your love: Metronomy - Radio Ladio (Micachu Remix)

INTRODUCING GLORYHOLE

Some Modular News

The 3rd album from New York’s finest Yeah Yeah Yeahs is to be titled It’s Blitz! and is due to be unleashed on an unsuspecting planet on April 10. The album will be preceded by the single Zero which shows the band on their most electronic, experimental tip to date, with the inimitable Yeah Yeah Yeahs bombast flecked with swatches of synths and atmospheric effects.

According to the band, It’s Blitz! was inspired by the ’70s disco collaborations between Italian producer Giorgio Moroder and R&B songstress Donna Summer, Joy Division, and, well, Karen O’s love of dancing, and these all come through in their own YYY-warped way on the record.

It’s Blitz! was recorded across a number of studios across the states with production duties shared by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek and Nick Launay (Talking Heads, Arcade Fire, INXS), and captures a band at the height of their powers and completely owning a gallant new direction.

Stay tuned for Zero on your radio next week.

PRESETS NEWS:
If I Know You represents one of the more sublimely opulent moments from the multi award winning second album by The Presets, Apocalypso. Built from a somber chord progression and poignant tale of bitterness and lessons learned, If I Know You echoes of lonely night drives, dancing in the forest and the feeling of gallantly marching away from a spiteful lover.

To recreate the emotionally resonant atmosphere of the song on film, The Presets enlisted French director Eva Husson (who directed the acclaimed short for M83’s Kim and Jessie last year) to weave a poetic LA dream sequence of fire and dance, which you can view on their MySpace.
Remixes of If I Know You come courtesy of Tom Middleton, Heartbreak, Vince Clark and Chaim, with a hypnotic cover by Tania & Jori.

ROBYN NEWS:
Swedish songstress Robyn has just released a 3 track live EP exclusive to iTunes. With acoustic versions of Be Mine, With Every Heartbeat and Bum Like You and at only $4, forgo the coffee tomorrow morning and let this twinkle your morning

TAME IMPALA NEW BLOG:
"Hello internet friends / fans / people vaguely interested. We are a psychedelic rock band called Tame Impala. We’re really good and awesome and we like to play gigs in paddocks and other large areas of grass in the sun. We like to record music at home. We wrote a bio a while ago but lost it, I’ll put it up when I find it." They’re also (now) proud parents of a brand spanking new blog, a place to keep you up to date on their local and soon to be global happenings alongside things they’re checking and stumbling upon. Good times.

Nick Cave announces Festivals he is playing

Got this in my mailbox:

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS
ANNOUNCE FESTIVAL APPEARANCES FOR 2009
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announce the first of a string of summer festival appearances.
The band, featuring Ed Kuepper on guitar, will headline at German festivals Southside (Neuhausen Ob Eck) and Hurricane (Scheesel) in June, Scotland's T in the Park on 10th July and Oxegen Festival in Ireland on 11th July.
Kuepper, formally of Australian bands The Saints and Laughing Clowns, completes the current Bad Seeds live line up of Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, Thomas Wydler, Jim Sclavunos and Conway Savage.
Kuepper has been, and continues to be, a significant influence on contemporary Australian music. He formed the original version of the proto punk band The Saints in 1973 whilst in high school and when the original Saints split he formed what, in the eyes of many, was an even bolder enterprise, Laughing Clowns.
The Clowns broke up in 1984 and Kuepper launched a prolific solo career which has seen the release of more than 20 albums and several film and soundtrack projects. His latest studio recording was 'Jean Lee and the Yellow Dog' in 2007.
This full schedule of festival dates promises to include some of the best and most exciting festivals that Europe and the British Isles have to offer. These festival dates mark the band's first European appearances since their sold-out London Troxy shows in November 2008. More details will be announced very soon.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Mute are set to release their first four albums in a series that will see the band's entire album catalogue digitally re-mastered and remixed in 5.1 surround sound.
All 14 albums will be available as re-mastered CD and as a deluxe Collectors Edition starting with the release of From Her To Eternity, The Firstborn Is Dead, Kicking Against The Pricks and Your Funeral... My Trial on 30th March 2009.

Simian Mobile Disco - Synthesise video [HD]

OMFG!!!!!! New Simian Mobile Disco song Synthesise and its LOVELY, this is the video, the track floated around for a very short time on various blogs but the link has been removed, so I guess we have to wait then, well, I think it will be worth the wait, in the meantime, enjoy the video!!

Introducing: GEORGE LENTON

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you George Lenton, I wanted to do a feature on him a while back when I got his awesome King Blues remix but there was no info, however, he contacted me and has kindly allowed me to share some of his genius with you, AND he can also tell you a bit about himself in his own words. SERIOUSLY nice guy to boot!! Give him love on his GEORGE LENTON MySpace page

This is what he has to say:
i started off djing, decided id actually learn the decks rather than just mix on them and ended up doing a few comps, dmc's, a couple of battle's in london and whatnot. However, i got bored of the battle scene and the boring geeky gigs that went with it, so i stopped all that and got into band stuff. I started helping out a band with their backing tracks live and little bits of keys and stuff. I also got bored of this, band politics were absolutely stupid, there was loads of bitching and i wasnt really getting to do anything that creative, so left in spring 2008.

After that i really got into producing my own stuff and taking it more seriously. SBPM was the first track that i made on the promo, and was originally a piss take but i sort of got into it :P ha ( although i messed up all the folders and never got chance to mix it down properly! probably sounds better messy anyway...) SBPM got played on radio 1 and so have some of the others off the promo, the yelle remix was given the thumbs up from tepr and yelle themselves and the king blues remix was also approved by the band.

So since then ive just been making beats! Im not too sure what catagory id put myself under, obviously some of its electro, but that doesnt really apply to me, just some of the stuff ive made up to date. I really like dubstep and have a couple of tracks lined up at the mo. This year id like to start gigging again as a dj, but off the back of my productions rather than just scratching.

GEORGE LENTON PROMO TRACKS:

GEORGE LENTON - SLEEP FT PERKIE

KING BLUES vs GEORGE LENTON - Come fi di (George Lenton Remix)

GEORGE LENTON - SBPM

LUX INTERIOR DIES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Lux Interior, the founding member of garage punk band the Cramps, has died aged 62. Interior, whose real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser, passed away on 4 February at Glendale Memorial Hospital in California. He had suffered from a previously existing heart condition.

Interior was the theatrical, macabre frontman of cult punk-rock group the Cramps. He founded the band in 1973 with his wife, Poison Ivy, whose real name is Kristy Wallace, and quickly became a staple of the New York punk scene. The band's music fused their love of horror B-movies with rockabilly and surf rock, and their influence can be heard in bands such as the White Stripes, My Bloody Valentine and the Horrors.

The Cramps recorded their debut EP, Gravest Hits, in 1979 and continued touring and recording, albeit with a revolving lineup, until 2004. Interior and Poison Ivy were the only constant members of the group. They were notorious for their flamboyant, fetishistic live shows, and once infamously played a show for patients at Napa State Mental Hospital in Sacramento.

False rumours that Interior had died of a heroin overdose circulated in 1987, with fans sending wreaths to his home after hearing the news. "At first, I thought it was kind of funny, but then it started to give me a creepy feeling," the singer told the Los Angeles Times. "We sell a lot of records, but somehow just hearing that you've sold so many records doesn't hit you quite as much as when a lot of people call you up and are obviously really broken-up because you've died."

Sadly, a statement confirming his death earlier this week is no hoax. He is survived by Wallace, his wife of 37 years. A statement from the Cramps' media representatives reads: "Lux has been an inspiration and influence to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy's contributions with the Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern music. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly."

FUCKING SAD DAY INDEED...... Been listening to them a LOT recently again, AWESOME band........NO-ONE did Bad so Good

What is Machinima? (machine + animation + cinema)
Machinima is a real world film making technique applied with in the interactive virtual world of 3D games. Basically, games are modified and altered so that scenery and characters (‘characters’ are not human they are objects or avatars) can be controlled either by human intervention or scripts – allowing the artists to ‘shoot’ movies within the virtual environment.

There are degrees of manipulation and modification – from the basic manipulation of the chosen games characters to the full replacement of the environment and characters. Kirschner in a series of machinima titled person 2184 replaced the 3D gaming environment and characters with photographs of an urban environment. In this way he created a graphic movie series on urban living. These were released both as a stand alone movies and movies that run in the gaming environment of Unreal Tournament.

PREPMODE 5 On It Vol 1

Simon aka PREPMODE sent me this:

So, just like old folks, I believe that music should be given respect. We celebrate people who retire with parties, but what do we do for the music that we retire from our Vinyl/CD collections, or top playlists, or whatever your specific preference is?? I decided that I would celebrate tracks that I no longer foresee myself playing at gigs by presenting the “5 ON IT” Mix Series. Each time around, I will select 5 tracks that have put a smile on my face along with many others.

The Chemical Brothers – Hey Boy Hey Girl (Soulwax 2 many dj’s Remix)

I did not think that this track could get any more ballsy and big and beaty however them Belgians certainly know how to flesh out the beats and holy crap what a great remix…almost heading into Prodigy Smack My Bitch Up territory
Audion – Noiser (Mary Velo Remix)
Absolutely lovely Mary Velo Remix of Matthew Dear’s side project, the warmest bassline ever catches fire
Heloise Savior Faire – Illusions (Filthy Dukes Rmx)
Brilliant track all Filthied up and ready for the dancefloor
LCD Soundsystem – Where is Love?
Apparently he doesn’t even like this track, well I disagree, I think it is the best thing he has written in ages, all disco and driven
Trash Yourself and Toxic Avenger – Song 2 (Richard Vission and Robert Chang Re-Work)
Thanks John, this remix is amazing, brings more elements of the original in and gives Heidi’s vocals more prominence
Capsule – Flashback
Cool track from Japan's Electronica act Capsule, blissful in my humble opinion

Midfield General – Love thyself (Tronik Youth Remix)
Tronik Youth takes this Midfield General track to a new level…Love Thyself indeed, nothing wrong with a bit of narcissism early in the morning, ee aye ee aye oh…. (anyone get that musical reference, message me….I promise to be impressed
Lilly Allen – The Fear (The Count Saves Lilly Allen From The Fear remix)
Can this lady do anything wrong at the moment? All dubsteppy and grimey and lovely and Lilly like
FrYars – Visitors (feat David Gahan)
This track takes Sir Mode back to 80’s territory, even his vocal delivery takes it back into that territory, tres cool!
Midfield General – Disco Sirens (Blackflight Flashlight Remix)

I’m in Love with the Disco Siren, features Vila from my new favourite Bumblebeez, genius……. Yeah, suck on THAT senor, hahahhah, you know who you are….
Johnny Cash – Personal Jesus
Track seven of the album, Johnny’s second last ever if I remember correctly, making Le Mode all honky tonk, Johnny Cash, a complete nutter and a complete genius
Jace Everrett – Bad Things
Yay cool Americana, thanks Malcolm, a lovely addition
The Faint – I Treat You Wrong
Fasciination track….fascinating band…awesome track….yay for the Faint (also track 7 of the cd)
Presets – Talk Like that (An Optimo Espacio Remix)
And completing the track 7 trilogy, thank you Nicola, Adrian and Malcolm, is this stroke of Aussie genius all Jd Twitch’d out, did I mention that they were amazing at Nevereverland? They have just announced that they will be playing Coachella this year, lucky Americans
Winx – Don’t Laugh
NOW we have to get all ravey on your asses, freaking fantastic… first heard this on a dancefloor in the mid 90’s whilst smangled off ones face, as one tended to do back then, well, once the laughing began, holy crap…the entire rave (about 4 thousand lumo nutters) went off, laughed for days after that….thank you Winx, a great night
Fever Ray – If I Had A Heart (Fuck Buttons Remix)

Knife side project given the Fuck Buttons treatment, dark and Dead Can Dance style, isn’t going to be mainstream, but they do have their cult status well in check
Grace Jones – Williams Blood (Aeroplane Dub)
STILL the coolest mix of her recent outing, long and thankfully so….welcome back Mizz Jones, you’re not perfect, but you’re perfect for me!
