Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Riton & Primary 1, Crystal Method, UFO's, Dark Matter, Atlantis and a poor Greek player

Hey, its a short post, but there are some cool stories below I thought I'd share, and some new tracks courtesy of RCRD LBL, plus Crystal Method got nominated for a Grammy, coolness personified!!
There's also a Greek football player being pelted with a deluge of carrots, yes....carrots!!!
I suspect that the music is going to be a bit slow untill January again, so I will update as and when stuff gets sent to me.
I played a BLINDER of a set at Cellardoor last night, if you don't have the new Vitalic album yet, it is AWESOME, nice and dark. Flashmob is the name of the album!
I might be at Gin again tomorrow afternoon for the final saturday of the year there, depends on whether they want it or not! If I am there, it will be a special VINYL set!
Cape Town in a few days for a break, I need it so badly, this year has really battered me, thank (insert Deity of choice here) I have such amazing friends and family. My heart is battered and bruised but it still loves, very much, which is a good thing.

Lost city of Atlantis found??
Dark Matter Detected
UFO over the Kremlin

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
Kisses Over Babylon
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are shaping up to be one wild pack—as if one moment amidst their fire would inspire us to finally run off into the desert with only a bindle on our back and a tambourine in our heart.

Riton & Primary 1
Radiates (Riton Rerub)
You can’t party like “Radiates” wants you to when it’s snowing. It’s a summer thing. But you can stare out at all the cold people and feel incredibly smug that you've got your own window into the sun, Riton and Primary 1 rerubbing you warm.

TRUMPDISCO, Air, The Soft Pack, Don Diablo, I'm Not A Band, Housewives, DV8, Miike Snow, Amanda Blank, Atlas Sound

Soooooo, now we are sprinting headlong towards 2010, I am SOOOOO glad to be seeing the end of 2009, I have been letting the music pile up so here is another monster post for all of you my pretties!! Thanks to everyone for your support. I hope you all have a magnificent break over the festive season whatever your belief system and that, it's a time for family and loved ones. Take care of everyone, I witnessed an ugly scene last night at a pub with an abusive steroid moron abusing his girlfriend and her friend, we helped as much as we could. It was ugly, fortunately it all ended okay, I just hope the girl has the good sense to boot the fucker into touch where he belongs, in the gutter amongst the dregs of society, prefferably being gang raped by small Pygmy illiterates with Barbwire for condoms!
Anyhoo, love has not treated me kindly....lets hope it does soon:

[ZSHARE] LARRY TEE - LET'S MAKE NASTY (DON DIABLO REMIX)

Miike Snow
Animal (Mark Ronson Remix)
“Animal” always sounded warm weather appropriate, so this revision from Mark Ronson, with its coy organ taps and swelling horns, is taking that idea to its logical end. And what an insanely pleasant, dubby end that is. Don’t sleep on the falsetto riffing towards the end—truly enchanting stuff.
Miike Snow - Animal (Mark Ronson Remix)

Amanda Blank
DJ (Viking Remix)
Having already put his drive-time electro stamp on Amanda Blank’s “Shame On Me,” Virginia knob tweaker Viking returns to the fold for this version of her selector paean, “DJ,” cutting its unbridled club lust with incessant, snaky arpeggios.
Amanda Blank - DJ (Viking Remix)

Air
Do The Joy
While Air have never sounded tied down, “Do The Joy” is an especially weightless odyssey, floating spaceward on Hitchcockian synths and warped radio transmissions. They try tethering it to simple drums and piano, but this one just wants to get gone.
Air - Do The Joy

The Soft Pack
C’Mon
2010 holds the promise of a new, self-titled album from The Soft Pack and to whet your appetite, we’re sharing with you “C’Mon,” the record’s innervating, R.E.M.-ish opener.
The Soft Pack - C’Mon

Atlas Sound
Shelia
Few solo side-projects are worth their weight in hype, but the obtuse, collage-y songs Deerhunter lynchpin Bradford Cox makes as Atlas Sound certainly are. His second album under the moniker, Logos, crests with this gorgeous strummer about making a deal with a friend to bury one another.

Cold War Kids, Chew Lips, Lindstrom and Christabelle, Fever Ray, Drake, Passion Pit, Paper Route, Kid Sister, The Bravery, Don Diablo, 720Bass,

OKAY, so it's been an eventful week, I sadly had to say goodbye to my beautiful Dog Shema this week, after 16 years of life she finally passed on, it was very sad but I was with her to the last, sweetest dog you could ever meet and be bitten by, RIP!
I finished the Nick Cave book, The Death of Bunny Monroe which is excellent. ALSO I received a lovely gift out of the blue from someone special (you know who you are). I also received some bad news to do with a family member, I hope the prognosis is good. It's been a mad few months really, FINALLY 2010 is in sight, I for one cannot wait, it's been my worst year ever bar none (only 1 thing this year has actually been amazing). Anyways, without further ado, my musings are coming to an end....here's what you been looking for, adore away bitches:

Cold War Kids
Audience
Long Beach’s Cold War Kids return with this soulful, firm-footed new one, taken from their forthcoming EP, Behave Yourself.
Cold War Kids - Audience
Cold War Kids Web

Drake
Forever (feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, And Eminem) (Steve Aoki Remix)
That Drake’s “Forever” is still all over the radio after four months in the wild should prove that it’s more than just a superstar posse cut for the sake of being a superstar posse cut. Good choice, then, for Steve Aoki to leave all four verses unscathed in his purposefully oversized club rinse, which will try to further ubiquitize an already omnipresent song.
Drake - Forever (feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, And Eminem) (Steve Aoki Remix)
Steve Aoki Web

Passion Pit
Little Secrets (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)
This fresh edit of Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” by Jokers Of The Scene has been the arsenal cornerstone of basement DJs for weeks. The Fool’s Gold duo shapes the track’s gleefully wonky pop tune into a bass-laden, 4 AM club track, where the children’s chorus crests into a synapse-blowing crescendo (with lots more cowbell).
Passion Pit - Little Secrets (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)
Jokers of the Scene

Paper Route
Gutter (Nick Catchdubs Remix)
This remix, courtesy of Nick Catchdubs, hones in on Paper Route’s electronic drama but fixes it up for clubland, substituting hysteria for something more dead-eyed and sullen, “Gutter” a drink thrown in the face of every man caught dancing with the wrong girl.
Paper Route - Gutter (Nick Catchdubs Remix)

Kid Sister
Right Hand Hi (Kicks Like A Mule Remix)
O.G. British rave duo Kicks Like A Mule (aka XL founder Richard Russell and Nick Halkes) offer this loopy Big Beat version of Kid Sister’s “Right Hand Hi.” Mad tambourine!

Fever Ray
Now’s the Only Time I Know (J-Wow Mix)
This booming rain dance comes courtesy of J-Wow of Buraka Som Sistema and transforms Fever Ray’s original occult appeal into a ghetto-tech electro ballad fit for for the stickiest of floors.

The Bravery
Slow Poison (Of Montreal Remix)
The Bravery gets a weird and wonderful edit thanks to Of Montreal, who blend industrial noise, trippy handclaps, and needling electropop on this exclusive remix of “Slow Poison.”

Lindstrøm & Christabelle
Baby Can’t Stop (Idjut Boys Remix)
Esteemed London duo Idjut Boys give “Baby Can’t Stop” a very subtle refit, doing little more than dubbing out the vocal and extending the arrangement. Still, it’s worth the price of admission for the horns alone.

Of course, what would any ting of mine be without RCRD LBL:

Crystal Fighters
I Love London (Qoso Remix)
In celebration of the full “I Love London” single release today on Kitsuné, we have a Crystal Fighters exclusive to gift. Qoso—Fool House’s newest tropical child—tweaks the Spanish ravers into a hardcore-esque, spacevoid edit, heavy on the bounce and strobe.

Boris
Buzz In (Todd Edwards Remix)
Todd Edwards is something of a regaled figure in dance music. The New Jersey house legend (and one-time Daft Punk collaborator) is playing Flashing Lights in New York this Friday alongside Kingdom and residents Nick Catchdubs, DJ Ayres, and Jubilee. As a bit of a preview, below is a recent remix of his for Scion A/V.
Boris - Buzz In (Todd Edwards Remix)

The Count & Sinden
Strange Things (R1 Ryders Funkitek Refix)
The sound of cracking knuckles and banging skulls, this refix of The Count & Sinden’s “Strange Things” aims for funky house but still ends up scaring all the ladies away. Dubstep like this exists in too thick a red mist to be swayed from its personal vendetta against calm, peace, and reason.
The Count & Sinden - Strange Things (R1 Ryders Funkitek Refix)
The Count & Sinden Web

The Futureheads
Struck Dumb
So, The Futureheads got an octave pedal. That’s the lizardy twang you’re hearing. Other than that, not much has changed since last year’s exultant and ass-kicking, This Is Not The World—they still sound like the anointed child of Wire and the Jam.
The Futureheads - Struck Dumb

Ben Rymer
La Trinciarice (Main Mix)
Like seemingly so many other grizzled DJ booth vets, Ben Rymer has never put out a record under his own name. Or rather, hadn’t. The just released vinyl for “La Trinciarice”—which translates to “The Shredder,” but in no way lines up with the softened Italo rays he’s let into this one—finally jettisons the former Fat Truckers and Gucci Soundsystem man into the realm of proper solo artistry.

So, I spoke to my father today for the first time in 8 years, it was weird. Lifes too short to hold onto negative shit, we must move beyond and above it or else it all just drags you down and becomes an excuse for your future failures. Break free of the shit and you can achieve what you want to achieve. Well, I will be at Kitcheners on saturday night playing an early Dubstep set and then probably go home, I have a bad chest infection, so I should probably stay at home on my meds!
K, peeps, have an awesome weekend.......

Best Coast
When I’m With You
Every part of this Best Coast song adds to its effortlessness: the slow open, the major/minor chord changes, the harmonies that blow in for the refrain, the bridge mantra. This is what we wish Weezer records still sounded like, obvious gender issues aside.

Fan Death
Reunited (CCENTURIESS Remix)
This killer remix by duo CCENTURIESS whips Fan Death’s “Reunited” into black sky oblivion. Weaving in and out of Dandilion and Marta’s milk-soaked vocals is a roller-derby darkness that devolves into claps and clangs, and finally, a tinny, apocalyptic wheeze that’ll put a stint in your aorta.

Previews up on NAPT's Myspace and Facebook

Some stuff from RCRD LBL:

The Disco Biscuits
You And I (The Juan MacLean Remix)
Disco Biscuits have long been jam-band-land’s ambassadors to electronic dance music, and their love for DFA has extended to appearances by The Juan MacLean at their Camp Bisco festival, so we honestly expected this sort of aisle-crossing to come sooner or later. And now that we have these ten minutes of deep, hangar-sized house, we feel less guilty about the poncho hanging in the closet.

Sebastien Tellier
Fingers Of Steel (Toby Toast Topspin Remix)
Sebastien Tellier’s album, Sexuality, was, in a word, succulent, so we can understand—nay, appreciate—the milking of it for one last 12-inch. Below, grab the exclusive, unreleased, totally left-field downtempo version from London youngin’ Toby Toast.

Casxio
Seventeen (The Glass Remix)
The original version of Casxio’s “Seventeen” showed up in March, but Plant just released it all proper like with this version from The Glass, sounding like it was submerged in liquefied leather and dried out on a subwoofer.
Casxio - Seventeen (The Glass Remix)
Casxio

Pelican
Specks Of Light
Instrumental metal is either your thing or it isn’t, unless we’re talking about Pelican. Dudes aren’t soft, but the sludge they kick around is more cerebral than it is oppressive. And you don’t have to know Calculus to find the first beat of a measure. In short, it’s approachable stuff.

Tomorrow I will be at Kitcheners for a Cellardoor party AND I will be at Gin for my usual saturday afternoon thang with Keith the Klassikist, so yeah, see you all then:) have fun, travel safe, love one another, we need more love in the world!

And then My Awesome Mixtape sent me this stuff

My Awesome Mixtape – Hearts to Lend
My Awesome Mixtape’s story starts, like that of many other bands, in their bedroom.
That’s where, at the tail end of 2006, Maolo, Checco and Bebo – three spritely Bolognese regaz – half-jokingly start making music. Mixing and matching their favourite styles, they end up generating an original mix of indie rock, hip hop and electronica, the kind you cannot fail to dance to.
In the space of a few months, the band’s first songs become the talk of the town, and soon enough they are hailed everywhere as Italy’s next big thing.

New Groove Armada Vid, Sia, Bubblegum Sci Fi Remix, Kid Sister, Grooms, Beach House, Das Glow

NEW Groove Armada video:

Sia Twittered this yesterday, it's a free track from her new album being released early next year called We Are Born:
Sia - You've Changed

This arrived in my mailbox last night after I had done my previous post:
Bubblegum Sci Fi
This fist-pumping sing along from San Diego based duo Bubblegum Sci Fi comes highly recommended. Fans of Le Castlevania and Designer Drugs dont sleep on this one."

And then of course, it has to be RCRD LBL.....yay:

Kid Sister
Right Hand Hi (SonicC Remix)
Kid Sister finally released her debut LP, Ultraviolet, yesterday—pick it up on iTunes, Amazon, the Music Tee, or whichever fine physical outlet you patronize. As a special bonus beat, we’ve got a super swishy unreleased mix of “Right Hand Hi” from Miami house producer SonicC.

Grooms
Acid King Of Hell (Guitar Feelings)
There’s nothing overtly psychedelic or doomy about Grooms’ “Acid King Of Hell (Guitar Feelings),” but the parenthetical bears some insight, since it’s on their loud-quiet-loud amp exorcisms that this one really gets lifted.
Grooms - Acid King Of Hell (Guitar Feelings)

Beach House
Norway
Beach House timed this one perfectly. “Norway” isn't just made for autumn, it is autumn, ticking along on breath-on-window backing sighs, synths that disintegrate like a bed of fallen leaves and the voice of Victoria Legrand; who inhales oxygen and exhales bitter, bitter, wistful regret.

Our partners at Institubes just put out a remix package for Das Glow’s 2008 single “Lite Brite,” with this bugged liquid-funk flip from Boys Noize pal Strip Steve being the essential get. The full release, also has a version from Qebrus and a b-side called “A Lighter Shade Of Bright.”

Introducing KRAUSE, New Kids at the Bar remix and video, Pitch Black, Heroes Agency Mixtape

Introducing Krause from the Netherlands, this is what she has to say: Not only is ‘No Guts, No Glory’ the title of her debut album, it is also the maxim of Krause, alter ego of the Dutch Susanne Clermonts. On her debut album she translates this into steamy disco and pumping electro beats. It is a mix of catchy synth pop and hysterical electro punk, with a sound that makes your trouser legs flutter. The album is produced by the guys behind drum & bass trio Noisia, who are responsible for the consistent, heavy sound of ‘No Guts, No Glory’. for more info go Here

NEW Rubix, The Bravery, Au Revoir Simone, Housewives, Miike Snow, Crystal Fighters and some WICKED Otters

Rubix sent me this wicked cool video he did for his latest track, God bless oldschool cut n paste pastiche:
Rubix - Baiser Sur La disco

Rubix - Baiser Sur La Disco
Rubix - Crepe le Piste

And before we get to our daily dose of RCRD LBL, something nice from Kinetika Records, a SNEEK PREVIEW of The Housewives new EP:

Housewives - Dirty Dancing

RCRD LBL and their awesomeness:

Miike Snow
Black & Blue (Savage Skulls Remix)
Of all the versions of “Black & Blue,” this one from Savage Skulls is the most concussive . You have to give it a few minutes though—the real mental, entrails-lasering part starts around 2:30.
Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Savage Skulls Remix)

Au Revoir Simone
Another Likely Story (Aeroplane Remix)
We were already drawn to the coffeepop sway of Au Revoir Simone’s original, but Aeroplane’s rework does ten better, snapping the songbirds off their chilly branch and blasting south in a stained-glass Maserati.

The Bravery
The Spectator
The Bravery has kindly gone ahead and dropped yet another track from their upcoming album Stir The Blood. “The Spectator” is lush with angst, strangled melodies and the band’s nuanced strain of dark dance.

Crystal Fighters
I Love London (In Flagranti Vintage Mix)
Crystal Fighters are Spanish, Kitsune-signed electro kids with party mantras like parasites. Here’s their new single, “I Love London,” which In Flagranti have sculpted into this particularly huge, chugging mass of arena-disco.

RIP Jerry Fuchs

Last week the phenomenal drummer Jerry Fuchs passed away following an unfortunate accident where he fell down an elevator shaft at his home, truly a sad day indeed:

Juan MacLean will DJ a benefit show in memory and in tribute to friend, band mate and legendary drummer Jerry Fuchs, who passed away in an unfortunate accident in the early hours of November 8. The show will take place November 20 at San Francisco’s Mezzanine (444 Jessie Street). The show will also feature a DJ set with Parallels. A donation will be made to the Fuchs Family.

Jerry was a celebrated drummer, having recorded and toured with The Juan MacLean, Holy Ghost!, Maserati, !!! and Turing Machine. Born December 30, 1974 in Marietta, Georgia, he attended the University of Georgia and moved to New York in 1995, quickly becoming a beloved fixture on the city’s music scene. When not touring, Jerry worked as a graphic designer for publications like Chunklet and Entertainment Weekly. Juan MacLean describes Jerry as “the absolute best at what he did” and a “supportive and loyal friend.”

The Juan MacLean has released a video of the extended version of “Happy House,” featuring some of Jerry’s best work. Shot at the Double Door in Chicago on June 16 of this year, the song is a crowd and critic favorite, having been named one of Pitchfork’s 100 Best Tracks of 2008. At nearly 20 minutes long, the performance is a testament to Jerry’s talent and dedication to his craft.

TJM and DFA also just released "Happy House 2 x 12" with remixes by a wide range of dance music's all-stars: Chateau Flight, Paul Woolford, Will Saul & Mike Monday, and VHS Or Beta. Lazaro Casanova, an up-and-coming artist and DJ from Miami, who turned in the highest-rated remix of the last Juan Maclean single, has been invited back once again.

Some tributes for Jerry:
Juan MacLean
Jerry Fuchs was one of my best and most loyal friends. In other situations it might seem trite or misguided to mention someone's music career in light of such a tragic death, but the truth is that music was an integral part of our relationship. Jerry was with me from the beginning of The Juan MacLean. The band allowed us to travel the world doing something we loved more than anything, and we constantly reminded ourselves how lucky we were, pushing each other to appreciate the life we were living when things got tough.

It is not hyperbole to say that Jerry was the absolute best at what he did. He was a legendary drummer. Other drummers revered him and fans were astounded by his playing. He was always the best part of any band of his which he was a member. And in light of all that, he was relentlessly humble to the point of self-deprecation. He exuded qualities that are are rare in the circles he travelled. He was disarmingly sincere and valued honesty above all else.I have never played with anyone as great as Jerry. I would be hard pressed to name a more supportive and loyal friend. I hope his family finds some bit of solace in the fact that Jerry touched the lives of so many all across the world, as evidenced by the outpouring of support and condolences come flooding in.
Jonathan Galkin - DFA
Today was a really bad day, Jerry, and I could have used one of those big sweaty hugs you gave after a show, when you were genuinely excited and surprised to see me. “Galkin, what the fuck are YOU doing here?!”, you would exclaim, as if i didn’t ever attend the live shows from bands on my own label. You were truly one of a kind, and whether you knew it or not, people wanted to be in the same room as you, or near the same room as you, because maybe just maybe, some of that radiant joy and in-the-moment spirit you exuded would rub off on them. You didn’t take it all with you, because there are a lot of people today who are going to feel mighty responsible to carry and spread that joy with them for the rest of the time they have here. And who knows now how long that might be. You were a really good drummer, some might say the best we had, but you were a greater friend. I love you and miss you, Jerry.
Brian Long - Yes Know Management
Jerry cast an incredible glow on every situation he entered into. It was an honor to work with him. His drumming skills were truly a gift which he used to connect with many people. This is what musicians are put on earth to do. Jerry embodied this to the fullest. He will be missed but remembered with a smile and a laugh.

Holy Hail
The Dying Party EP
Here is Holy Hail’s new EP, The Dying Party, its entirety, from the foggy clubsphere of “What’s It Like To Go Away” through till the elegiac party’s-over closer “Carry On.”
The band have been working closely with Education Through Music on the release, an organization that initiates music education programs in New York City and California. And since they're being pretty benevolent with this whole free record thing, maybe y’all could head over to the ETM website to donate some much needed and sure to be well-used clams?

THEN, I saw this letter online and HAD to post it, it’s hilarious, CLEARLY the guy is peeved with his team!!!

Dear Players of Grimsby Town FC

I am writing with regard to my absolute astonishment and disbelief as to the sheer magnitude of your complete lack of talent and failure to carry out the job for which you are paid to do. I am not aware of any swear word or other derogatory phrase in my current vocabulary which comes close to a description of your ‘performance’ (and I use that term loosely) this afternoon, but let me just say that you have collectively reached a level of inadequacy and ineptitude that neither I nor modern science had previously considered possible.

In fact I recall a time, in my youth, when I decided to call in sick at work and instead spent the entire day in my one bedroom flat wearing nothing but my underpants, eating toast and wánking furiously over second-rate Scandinavian porn. Yet somehow, I still managed to contribute more to my employer in that one Andrex-filled day than you complete bunch of toss-baskets have contributed to this club in your entire time here.

I would genuinely like to know how you pathetic little píssflaps sleep at night, knowing full well that you have taken my money and that of several thousand others and delivered precisely fúck all in return. I run a business myself, and I believe I could take any 4,000 of my customers at random; burn down their houses, impregnate their wives and then dismember their children before systematically sending them back in the post, limb-by-limb, and still ensure a level of customer satisfaction which exceeds that which I have experienced at Blundell Park at any time so far this season.

You are a total disgrace, not only to your profession, not only to the human race, but to nature itself. This may sound like an exaggeration, but believe me when I say that I have passed kidney stones which have brought me a greater level of pleasure and entertainment than watching each of you worthless excuses for professional footballers attempt to play a game you are clearly incapable of playing, week-in, week-out.

I considered, for a second, that I was perhaps being a little too harsh. But then I recalled that I have blindly given you all the benefit of the doubt for too long now. Yes, for too long you have failed to earn the air you’ve been breathing by offering any kind of tangible quality either as footballers or as people in general. As such, I feel it’s only fair that your supply runs out forthwith.

I trust, at this precise moment in time, that Mr Fenty is in his office tapping away on the Easyjet web site booking you all one-way flights to Zurich, complete with an overnight stay with our cheese eating friends at Dignitas. Don’t bother packing your toothbrush – you won’t need it.

In the event that our beloved chairman can’t afford the expense (understandable given that he’s soon going to have to assemble a new squad from scratch), then I am prepared to sell my family (including my unborn child) to a dubious consortium of Middle Eastern businessmen in order to pay for the flights. Christ, I’ll drive you there myself, one-by one, without sleep, if I have to.

Failing that, understanding that most dubious Middle Eastern businessmen are tied-up purchasing Premier League football clubs, I ask you to please take matters into your hands. Use your imagination, guys – strangle yourselves or cover yourself in tinfoil and take a fork to a nearby plug socket, or something. Just put yourselves and us fans out of our collective misery.

So, in summary, you pack of repugnant, sputum-filled, invertebrate bástards; leave this club now and don’t you fúcking dare look back. You’ve consistently demonstrated less passion and desire than can commonly be found within the contents of a sloth’s scrótum, so frankly you can just all fúck off – don’t pass go, don’t collect your wages, don’t ever come back to this town again.

I look forward to you serving me at my local McDonald’s drive-thru in the near future.

Yours sincerely

A very disillusioned Mariner

On the subject of football, check this out!!

COOL, well, it’s been an awful week, so hopefully everything will get better…love is hard
