Jensen Sportag

Received this in my mail from Jensen Sportag who have KINDLY allowed me to share this with all you lovely people, as well as some cool tracks for ya, music for a Summer evening after the rain as the party gets going, on a beach...smooth:

Just wanted to reach out today and tap your shoulder while I'm wearing my Jensen Sportag gloves. Oh these? Jensen Sportag is the capricious little electro-pop band made by me, Austin Wilkinson, and my friend Elvis Craig. We're from Nashville, our first EP is called Sergio and it's out on December 2nd.

Imagine Prince, Aphex Twin, and Wesley Willis all wantin ya, sayin 'Baby I'm yours...' and such. Well, here are some other items of note. Paw Tracks is down - Ariel Pink contributed vocals and cover art to our self-titled 2007 debut, and new-signing Dent May recently booked us for a private show at his Mississippi ranch and invited a collaboration. I think we'll do it. We also have a great fan in Domino Records' Max Tundra who recently name-checked Jensen in an Earplug interview, included us in his forthcoming remix LP, and asked us to open on his forthcoming tour.

But before the Tundra dates, we're doing some shows with the always rockin Ghostland Observatory in Atlanta and Nashville. We've already played with LCD Soundsystem, Junior Boys, Adult., Girl Talk, and many more. We can honestly say we have nothing against them. Dates, EP tracklist, album ZIP, photos, artwork, and a pair of MP3s are below. Whew. Please tap us back if you need anything.

Yours always,
Jensen Sportag

the shows

1st Hour of Show

2nd Hour of Show

Tonights Show featuring Far Och Son, Architecture In Helsinki, Cutout Collective, Tales of the Son, Hard On, Tame Impala etc

These New Puritans – Numerology (aka Numbers)
Fantastic track from the Beat Pyramid album, these nutters from Southend have cooked up a quite astounding album, a successor to the Klaxxons
Does it Offend You Yeah? – We are Rockstars
From their new album, this Electro Romp of a track is awesome, they ARE Rockstars, all twisted and fucked, yeah
The Presets – This Boys In Love
From the Appocalypso album, lurvely:)
"I stole the keys to the skies,
We’ll leave this place for the final time,
No crying words, no goodbyes,
Yes tonight we’re burning all the tough times.

Drown all the fears that we had,
These are the things that we’ll never understand.
This time fight fire with fire,
Cause baby tonight, the world belongs to you and I.

This Boy’s in love,
Love
This boys in love
Under city, under city lights
..."

Far Och Son – Panik (Tony Senghore Remix)
Most BRILLIANT track from this new Swedish outfit consisting of Frej Larsson
Simon Gärdenfors, they are on the Hybris label, SO phat this track
Far Och Son – Panik (Phatzoo Remix)
Tale of The Son – B
This piece of Instrumental genius is from the Deconstruction stable, fronted by A Boy Named Goo, expect MANY things from these guys in 2009, part of the NEW Jozi Revolution
Architecture In Helsinki – That Beep (Radioclit’s French Mix)
Australias Architecture with a wicked remix by London based Radioclit, check out their RADIOCLIT LONDON CLUB RESIDENCY : Secousse @ Notting Hill Arts club every 2nd friday of the month
Cutout Collective – Bloodlines (Jacob Israel Remix)
ANOTHER from the Deconstruction Stable, an old favourite of mine, remixed by the fantastic Jacob Israel, I was at the Woods on Saturday night watching Email Chekkerr and VJ Flikker of CoC storm the dancefloor, astounding, long live Ableton Live
Clinic – Tomorrow (DFA Remix)
What I love about DFA remixes, they are just so damn sexy, this is the slinkiest bassline of the last I don't know how long, its a builder
Gossip – Listen Up (Arthur Baker Remix)
Lovely house remix of Gossips staple from the Standing in.. album of 2006
Lykke Li – Little Bit (AutoErotique Bootleg Rmx)
There's a whole lot of sexual refferences in the post today, what with Radioclit, AutoErotique, Hard on et al, heh, what am I trying to tell myself???
Bumblebeez – Freak Your Loneliness
Rocker from Aussies Beeeeeezzz, stomps harder than a hard thing stomping hard, yeah!!!

Gang of Four – Anthrax (Faultline Remix)
Gang of Four, pure genius, so far ahead of its time, the blueprint for the likes of LCD Soundsystem et al.
Joy Division – Wilderness
And the blueprint for SO MANY bands from all over, one of the only bands that Nick Cave loved when he first came to London and was famously so dissapointed with the state of the music in the UK back then, the other band he loved was Mark E Smith's The Fall, funnily enough, both bands are from Manchester, so too is Manchester United, GREAT place Manchester, hahahah. This is from their astounding debut Unknown Pleasures
These New Puritans – Colours
Another track from the amazing newish album from the Puritans
Tame Impala – Skeleton Tiger
Aussie Psychedelic Rock on the Modular label, pretty as fuck, love it, they are really making waves now, another one to watch for 2009 as they go global
Peterfy Bori & Love Band – Hello Modern Dizajn (Fine Cut Bodies Fidget Ride)
Budapests actress/muso Peterfy all fidgeted up sexy style, who DOESN'T like a fine cut body?
Dardanelles – Of Course You Said (Riot in Belgium Remix)
Another classic Riots remix of the Dardonelles allready brilliant song Of Course You Said
Plus Move - Boss
Plus Move hail from Austin Texas, they are on the Expansion Team Records label,
Rufus Wainwright – Tiergarten (Supermayer Remix)
A 13 minute epic remix of Rufus's classic Tiergarten, stellar
Simian Mobile Disco – System
This is one of my favourite SMD tracks, it makes me think of all that was good about the Rave culture when I was involved in the very early to mid 90's, the track builds breaks, trances yet electro's, its unbelievable, and its only a bonus track on the Attack... album, blew my socks off when i first heard it very loud in my car after i bought it
Boys Noize – Don’t Believe the Hype
I can't get enough of this track, it rocks so hard, in as dark an Electro Intellitekno way as possible, I am not much one for genre's and labelling music so all I will call this is amazing
Simian Mobile Disco – System (cont.)

Hard On - Automatic
Germany's horny bastards from Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany T!t - The Bitch Dick - The Brain Ass - The Heart Gingahead - Special Guest MAD, yeah

Chinxxx Saves the world on her Lunch Break

Something AWESOME from the mind of my friend Hayley. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you: Chinxxx

Chinxxx is a project from the mind of Hayley Junkin (designer, illustrator and animator).

Chinxxx is the story of a little girl forced to work in her dad's two minute noodle restaurant Dragon Pearl, in downtown Joburg. She has a pet rat called Ratexxx that is always getting himself into trouble and many other characters that make like difficult for this 11 year old girl. All she asks for is a little peace and quite on her lunch break but her pesky cousins the Beaujexxx sisters always seem to drum up some kind of mischief. Chinxxx always manages to save the day, just in time to get back to work!

New Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Received this in my mail from Modular, thought I'd share it for you all:

"Yeah Yeah Yeahs, fronted by the queen banshee herself, Karen O are almost done and dusted with their new album. Although the details are scarce, what we do know is the follow up to last years Is Is EP won’t reach our ears until next year sometime and it’s going to be an absolute ripper of a record, that sounds very much like the YYYs
but nothing like what we’ve heard before. Here’s what they had to say:

There is no beating the bit of news sweeping the nation at the moment but YYYs have a bit of news of our own to share. NEW RECORD? NEW RECORD!! NEW RECORD IS GETTING CLOSER TO BEING DONE DONE DONE! You still won’t be hearing it until 2009 but damn are we close to finishing it and only after a year of writing and recording! Will it sound kind of like Show Your Bones? No, been there done that. What about IS IS? Is that more of the direction it’s going in? Absolutely not, it sounds VERY different from last year’s EP. Did we go back to our roots and write something closer to Fever to Tell? No looking back now silly, just full speed ahead. WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE?? Not much like anything you’ve heard from us before- DOES IT SOUND LIKE THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS??? YOU BET YOU’RE SWEET ASS IT DOES. Phew, can’t wait. We can hardly wait ourselves, we miss all of you and we’ve been working extra hard on this one with the intention to make you as happy as possible. Just wanted to drop a line to let you in on how quickly we’re approaching the finishing line and to GET PSYYYYYYYYYYYYCHED.
Love,

The YYYs"

Tibet talks make no progress, surprise surprise

This is from AP

Beijing - China said Monday no progress was made at recent talks with representatives of the Dalai Lama, saying the Tibetan leader's demands for greater autonomy mask his desire for the Himalayan region's independence.

"The sovereignty is the most fundamental issue. The Dalai has - by denying Chinese sovereignty over Tibet - been trying to seek a legal basis for his claims of independence or semi-independence for Tibet," said Zhu Weiqun, a vice minister of the United Front, the government department in charge of the talks.

The Dalai Lama, who fled to India amid a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959, says he does not seek Tibetan independence from China but wants meaningful autonomy that would ensure the survival of the region's unique Buddhist culture.

However, in a string of recent comments, the Tibetan spiritual leader has sounded increasingly pessimistic about the prospects for such a deal and called a special meeting of Tibetan exile communities and political organizations to discuss the future of their struggle.

Envoys of the Dalai Lama have said they would not comment on last week's talks until after the meeting of Tibetan groups, to be held November 17-22 in Dharmsala, India.

Many Tibetans insist they were an independent nation before Communist troops invaded in 1950, while Beijing says the Himalayan region has been part of its territory for centuries.

Both sides have accused the other of being not serious about resolving the Tibetan issue.

Zhu said that talks would be successful only if the Dalai Lama gives up what Zhu said was his bid to split the country.

"However, the door for Tibet independence, half independence and disguised independence have never been open and never will be open in the future," Zhu told a news conference.

Zhu also accused the Dalai Lama of ignoring an appeal from Beijing in July to stop efforts by some overseas Tibetan groups to disrupt the Beijing Olympics in August.

"Not only did the activities to damage Beijing Olympics not stop, but they escalated. The responsibility is on the Dalai's side that the talks failed to make progress," he said.

Last week's meeting was the third round of talks since anti-government riots rocked Tibet's capital, Lhasa, in March.

Beijing says the protests were part of a violent campaign by the Dalai Lama and his supporters to overthrow Chinese rule in Tibet and sabotage the Olympics. The Dalai Lama has denied involvement in the violence.

China responded with a massive crackdown in Tibet and the surrounding region in which exile groups say at least 140 people were killed and more than 1,000 were detained.

But activists - many of them foreigners - continued to stage small protests in Beijing during the Olympics.

My two cents worth: The Tibetans will never get their amazing and beautiful country back for as long as China remains Communist and have Communists in charge. I believe the Chinese Government to be disgusting pigheaded megalomaniacal despots desperate for world domination. Their Human Rights abuses are staggering. Their political interference in the country, the day to day running of mundane things and their Draconian policies towards the Dalai Llama, whom in my humble opinion is one of the greatest living Human beings on the planet, repulses me. The same thing they have done at the Three Gorges Dam, it was purely a pissing contest so that they could say they did it, meanwhile they have destroyed thousands of years of culture by burying huge amounts of land under water. The Chinese government has absolutely NO respect whatsoever for ANY independant country and the wishes, no respect for their long suffering citizens. Communism is an evil that should be eradicated from this earth. The reason why Communism fails is because of human nature and people like the Chinese Government

The Death Set – Negative Thinking (Treasure Fingers Remix)
Vocoder heavy Faint-like track circa Danse Macabre. "The Death Set hails from Baltimore, Maryland, by way of Gold Coast, Australia, where Johnny Siera met co-founding member Beau Velasco in 2005. Both drawn to each other’s reckless care of music, the duo united to write fleeting songs with lifelong hooks and overdriven melody. Hell-bent on recording and touring, The Death Set moved first to Sydney, quickly to Brooklyn, and finally to the meaner streets of Baltimore where their punk rock abandon could thrive" read more here

Info:
It would be hard for Prepmode (AKA: DJ Simple Simon) to imagine having any other career except music. Born in the same 'Small Town' as John Mellencamp, he was raised in a home where pictures of Jesus and George Jones graced the walls. In a family which provided exposure and appreciation for all types of music, his mother was in a travelling quartet in the 1960's and his aunt continues to work as a country singer. Whether through lessons or self-taught, Simon spent his youth learning to play multiple instruments, studying the principles, and researching the theories of music structure.

Exposure to early mainstream hip-hop and electronic dance music introduced Simon to the art of turntable mixing and scratching. His interest in these musical techniques led to the beginning of his own career in DJing on belt-driven turntables purchased at a pawn shop. Through practice and playing opening spots at raves and club events throughout the Midwest, Simon developed his skills. Initially playing tracks primarily from the Chicago House movement, he gained recognition, better tables, and high profile bookings including his first gigs overseas.

In college, while working as a record buyer for an independent record shop, Simon began his own promotions company and hosted many events in Indiana (including several not-for-profit events to benefit local charitable organizations) before completing his undergraduate degree in telecommunications. After graduation, he relocated to Rochester, New York. In New York, he acquired six separate club residencies in Rochester and Buffalo. Simon's success in NY led to an exceptional opportunity to partner with a club owner as both a DJ and promoter back in Indiana.

After returning to Indiana, Simon continued to develop his career by DJing, promoting, and organizing events. His experience gained him his first corporate sponsorship with Simple Shoes, and the honor of working as the US affiliate for both Frozen UK and Tidy Trax. Simon has also held one of the longest running residencies in Indianapolis at Jillian's Entertainment Complex. He has performed for many corporate sponsored events, tours, and runway fashion shows.

Since embarking on his journey as a DJ, Simon has continually developed his skills. Not just a master mixer, Simon has won and ranked highly in Turntablism competitions including DMC and the Guitar Center SpinOff. His accomplishments in these competitions sparked the interest of the Scratch DJ Academy (started by the legendary Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC). Simon now has the honor of sharing the Scratch Academy roster with other renowned DJs such as: Grandwizard Theodore, Rob Swift, and Craze. Simon's extensive musical background has also gained him positions performing and recording with bands from various musical disciplines (most recently Rench from Brooklyn, NY).

Simon has now begun the next chapter of his career by producing original tracks and remixes for artists including: Goose, Alexis & Fido, and Darlings of the Splitscreen. In an attempt to escape the harsh Midwest winters, Simon has relocated to Austin, TX based on the kind responses of several Austinites and the known reputation of being the 'Live Music Capital of the World'. He continues his work with the Scratch DJ Academy, performing at clubs and special events, and working on new tracks and remixes.

Remember to check out the website for more tracks and remixes!
