Guilty Hands won £15,000 to record an album from slicethepie - a site where listeners earn money
for reviewing tracks, which they then use to invest in bands (the
highest reviewed bands are put up for financing). Bands then have to
gain £15,000 in investment both from site users and fans who invest
their own cash, and any that reach the £15,000 target get the money.
We also won a Les Paul guitar (Gibson were sponsoring this particular
showcase). Some news here -
Also check out their blogs here and here
Well done guys, hard work pays off, as well as awesome choooons!

Check out the Cold War Kids on the seventh episode of Current Music’s “Embedded” airing at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Jan. 6.

Join the band as they perform at a Lake Tahoe casino, shop for instruments in San Francisco with South African rockers, Blk Jks, and play an acoustic set for a group of skate punks in a Paris park, courtesy of La Blogotheque.

Owl City
Fireflies (Marlow Remix)
This remix by Marlow could have been a lot murkier, more vicious, but it retains Owl City’s gape-mouthed piano burblings, and the swooning noises that come out of Young’s mouth are hardly messed with.

Crookers
We Love Animals (feat. Soulwax & Mixhell)
Geekazoids take note: evidently the central synth riff here is a Soulwax concoction, the drums are attributed to Mixhell, and the ensuing layers and mixing a Crookers/Soulwax tag-team. It’s also the first track on the forthcoming Crookers album, Tons Of Friends.

Adam Green
What Makes Him Act So Bad
It's weird to think of Adam Green as one of the most prolific songwriters of the decade, but he undoubtedly is. Judging from “What Makes Him Act So Bad,” his newest—and sixth— LP, Minor Love, contains more idiosyncratic Lou Reedisms about nonsensically cute things, like radios with feelings. Also, guitar solos!

A Place to Bury Strangers
Keep Slipping Away (South Central Remix)
Noise-rock doesn’t get more melodic than A Place to Bury Strangers, and in this industrial take of “Keep Slipping Away,” the musicality in the vocals stays strong and true, even as the smack-happy synths and barbed-wire riffs advance into a full-blown riot.

Dan Black
Symphonies (Hot City Remix)
This refix of Dan Black’s “Symphonies” from Hot City is also more of a full reimagining—the arms-open dolor of the original transfused into scrappy, palpitating club nosh.
