VHS or Beta’s upcoming fourth album, Diamonds & Death, is a journey full of thrilling moments and unexpected turns. The album’s electronic foundation is a byproduct of the many nights VHS OR BETA DJs have manned the decks and remixes they have done in the last few years. The self-produced album travels spectacular heights to gut-wrenching plunges and is an emotional rollercoaster. The songs unfold and mutate in unpredictable ways that will transfix dance floors and bedrooms alike. The two main creative engines behind VHS OR BETA’s decade-long career, Craig Pfunder and Mark Palgy, relocated to Brooklyn from Louisville over the last two years VHS or Beta - Breaking Bones
In addition to the band’s “Blood In My Eyes” video, Atari Teenage Riot is also asking their fans to participate in the video for the band’s upcoming single "Black Flags" (feat. Boots Riley of The Coup), which will be released on September 6th. You can hear “Black Flags” and read the lyrics HERE. They are calling their fans and others who support song’s ideals to make a video statement in front of a black flag, or any black surface to be included in the band’s final video. “Black Flags.” Fans are also invited to incorporate “Corpsing” into their video. Drawn from an idea the band had while “planking” at a Southern European airport, “Corpsing” is the act of laying down in a public location, covered in a black flag to represent those that have died as result of corporate greed. The band invites anyone to film themselves lip-synching to the “Black Flags” lyrics in front of a black flag or corpsing and send in their video to be included in the “Black Flags” video. All entries should be submitted to blackflags@atari-teenage-riot.net. Read the band’s full concept for the video below:
Acclaimed singer, songwriter and actress, Grace Jones was a fixture on the international club scene and was often seen at New York City’s famed nightclub Studio 54. She also became a muse to Andy Warhol who photographed her extensively and created a series of iconic portraits of her. Now, Grace Jones is preparing to release Hurricane, a new album of original material, in the U.S. on September 6 via [PIAS] America. Produced by Jones and Ivor Guest, Hurricane has received widespread praise in the U.K. and Europe where it was released in 2009. The tracks “Williams’ Blood” and “Corporate Cannibal” have emerged as hits as has the video for “Corporate Cannibal” directed by Nick Hooker. The release will also include a brand new bonus disc dub version of the entire album. Grace Jones - Sunset Sunrise
YouTube is good for a lot of things--especially cat videos. They Might be Giants have a different kind of video in mind. We are having a contest for our song “Can't Keep Johnny Down”. TMBG is inviting creative visual people to make a stylish, smart rock video for the song. It can be live action, motion graphics, animation, stop motion. It can be people jumping around in capes, but they should be very stylish people in very stylish capes or you will not win the contest. Videos are to be uploaded to YouTube and posted on the official TMBG Facebook page. All videos linked there will be voted on by the Facebook friends of TMBG, but the winner will be judged by Judge John Hodgman and Hodgman alone. Submission deadline is July 15. - Winner will receive $1000 bucks and a pizza from the pizzeria of their choice. The video will be posted on tmbg's you tube channel as well as posted on TMBG’s podcast -- so lots of people will celebrate your efforts. - Select runners up will also receive the pizza of their choice. They Might Be Giants - Can't Keep Johnny Down

Then we ended up drinking even more at Jacqui's house, needless to say, leaving her place at 2:30 in the morning wasn't REALLY the brightest move in lieu of a full day's worth of work ahead of me on monday...I survived. Big Scary - Autumn “An obvious comparison that comes to mind would be Jeff Buckley fronting the White Stripes (and indeed they’ve been described as such), but that undersells both parties. Syme is a far better drummer than Meg White and Tom Iansek’s vocals contain an intimacy that Buckley’s showboating falsetto occasi onally obscured.” - Beat Maga Check their video for Tuesday Is Rent Dayine Big Scary Net Melbourne two-piece with a chick drummer….grrrrr, me likey

Musically difficult to pin down, in an early live review the band were described by Mojo as playing “angular psych-flavoured post-punk commentaries with disarming confidence” and that’s as close a description as any. They also sent a copy of their self-released EP last year to The Independent and made their Barometer feature in the process.
The band release their debut single proper, “The Magic Eye”, on May 16th via new London independent label Alaska Sounds and it will be first single released from their upcoming debut album “Coloured Clutter”, expected end of June / July. Both single and album have been mixed by Mike Crossley (Foals, Arctic Monkeys).

Closer to home, Eve and I are doing a twice weekly night at THE PLACE PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS BOB ROCKS in Greenside, tuesday and thursday nights you can find myself and guests making noise there until the early hours of the morning. It's a return to the underground for an area that is being inundated with the popped collar and square toe brigade with a penchant for green and gold shirts and too much brandy. It's time to take back the streets, the ears and the minds of the public, and if you are not careful, we will take over your souls too.
AND I CANNOT WAIT to be making noize at WE ARE ANIMALS this weekend at THE WOODS and TOWN HALL, if it's ANYTHING as epic and insane as DESIGNER DRUGS whch was insane. We were still on the dancefloor at 4:15am when the music was stopped and the lights came on, an insanely awesome night was had by all! Joburg DOES know how to party!!
There will be a music related post up as soon as possible as true to form there has been a huge amount of music stacking up in my inbox and I need to sift through it all to share with you. There's a large amount so it will take a while, I promise to have it done as quickly as I can but it is a huge task. I love you all Peas and carrots
BEFORE I carry on with this post, I would like to make a public complaint against the DMCA whom in their INFINITE wisdom and absolute arrogance take down posts that have taken DAYS to do AND only have LEGAL MP3's etc in them by claiming that they have received a complaint and have APPARENTLY sent details to me about what the offending items are. To this day I have not received a SINGLE message from them stating that x or y is a problem and please remove it, not once, yet they claim they have sent many mails to myself.....get your shit together DCMA or I will take this further legally

SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONIC DREAMERS HOME VIDEO CREATE HYPNOTIC ELECTRO-ROCK WITH NEW ALBUM THE AUTOMATIC PROCESS

"beautiful" - Filter Magazine
"Home Video has created a journey...that never ceases to bounce back" - Under The Radar Magazine

Brooklyn, NY – Amidst waves of richly textured melodies and driving beats rises a haunting voice intoning messages of modern hope and despair that will invade your memories. This is the sound of HOME VIDEO, Collin Ruffino and David Gross, high-school friends from New Orleans who have been collaborating since their first short video in 1997. After originally recording for electro powerhouse Warp Records, the band are self-releasing their second album, The Automatic Process, available on February 25, 2011 (physical to be releasd March 25, 2011)
Inspired early on by music from the likes of Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, Depeche Mode, and Phillip Glass, HOME VIDEO intertwine the classically-trained sensibilities of Gross with the confessional and at times existential lyrics of Ruffino. With The Automatic Process, the band layers samples, synthesizers, piano, guitar, and live drums to build an electro-tinted minimalist rock that drives steadily towards the sublime -- a spacious soundtrack evocative of a fractured dream.
Warp Records released Home Video’s first two EPs in 2004: That You Might, a 10” single that immediately picked up considerable attention in Britain from BBC Radio 1 and the NME, and Citizen EP, a five-song release that earned the band a feature in Rolling Stone. In 2006, US-based Defend Music released the band’s debut album, No Certain Night or Morning. With infectious tracks like “Sleep Sweet” and “Gas Tank”, it’s no surprise that Grammy-nominated DJ Sasha picked two songs from the album to remix for his most recent release, Involver 2, which also included songs from Thom Yorke, Apparat and M83. HOME VIDEO themselves have recently taken to the role of remixer, reworking songs for bands like Bear in Heaven, Wave Machines, Faunts, Bang Gang, and friends Naked Hearts.
HOME VIDEO produce all their music themselves, and adapt their studio creations into full-on live performances featuring a drummer and hypnotic visual projections. During Home Video’s first European tour they had the opportunity to play in London with Blonde Redhead, who later invited the band to support them for three weeks of shows in North America. Since then, HOME VIDEO have opened for such diverse acts as Justice, Yeasayer, Flying Lotus, Pinback, DJ Krush, Colder, and Radio 4. Taking advantage of Ruffino’s film education, the band has also made several of their own music videos. The band’s video for “I Can Make You Feel It” premiered on MTV2’s Subterranean, and had over 200,000 views after being featured for a week on the front page of YouTube.com.
The Automatic Process will be released Febraruy 25th, 2011 (physical to be released March 25th). Building on the band’s 2009 EP, It Will Be OK EP, expect more of their best, with key songs “The Smoke”, “An Accident”, “Every Love That Ever Was”, and the title track, “The Automatic Process”. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming shows, videos, and remixes.
