BIO & INFOTEXT Fresh talent Djedjotronic is at the controls and he ropes in his friend South African rapper Spoek from the BRILLIANT SWEAT X to lay down lyrics for what he calls ‘electronic bitchy dance’. Four tracks on this EP then and first up is ‘Dirty & Hard’… the original is full on boom bass for peak-time party…. very funky and just the right side of filthy! The remix from head honcho Boys Noize introduces some nifty vocal treatment and beeps and bleeps for a heavy tech workout… ‘Horror Klub’ is a warping twisted hip-house belter and ‘Gum Attack’ is a sonic assault great for knocking the crowd side-ways! If that wasn’t enough also included here is a bonus remix of ‘Dirty & Hard’ by Congorock… his hyper bassline fury will do the trick nicely! A fantastic EP then and Djedjotronic a name to watch out for in ’09! 23 years old Djedjotronic (aka Jeremy) discovered electronic music through Warp and UR, a decade ago. He started his career through meeting now infamous mate Popof and released a couple of collaborations and toured a strong live PA together under the name Wee-Kids. His excellent debut EP ‘Turn Off’ was released in 2007 on Level75, and got huge support from Busy P, Justice, Oliver Huntemann and Mr Oizo. He has also completed remixes and productions for Busy P and UNKLE.
I recently asked Simon of PREPMODE a few questions and this is what he responded with, a wickedly cool interview AS WELL AS a new edit, see the link below:
Question 1: Hi Simon, it has been a busy year for you as a DJ and a producer, how has your music and style evolved over the past year, what has influenced you, where's your headspace at now musically? Yeah, it has been a crazy year. As far as how my music and style have evolved over the past year, at the beginning of the year I found myself playing more Modular and Indie Dance remixes, and as the year has unfolded, Fidget has really come into the forefront (which is cool because it's great for scratching and adding in samples). These elements have all influenced my evolution.Where my head's at musically right now is making and playing fun party music. I hate to bring this up any more than it's already in everybody's face, but with the economy in the situation it's in, people now (more than ever) just seem like they want to go out, have fun, dance, and party (more than simply going out just to be seen). Therefore, I've been working a lot more with Hip Hop/Electro crossover material. It gives me the opportunity to not only reach a wider audience, but incorporate some Turntablism in my sets.
Question 2: Having such a diverse and varied background musically, how does this focus you on what you do? Do you feel it gives you an edge as a DJ over others, or does it make it more difficult to concentrate on specific genres of music, naturally coming from a musical background must have helped? My diversity as a DJ and musical background have definitely given me an advantage. Having the collection of music I do and the ability to mix everything from Hip Hop to Electronic gives me more avenues to travel based on the crowd I'm playing for on a particular night. Plus, incorporating Turntablism into my Electronic sets is something that gets crowds crazy and there's not as many of us out there who can combine the 2. These things do make it hard to focus on a specific genre because I always feel like I have to keep up on everything (and there's soooo much out there).
Question 3: How did your relocation to New York change your perspective (if it did) on what you do? NY was good for me as a DJ. I ended up impressing the right people early on and it escalated from there. It was the first time that I felt the neccesity to be at the record store every week as soon the delivery truck came in to beat everyone else to any music I couldn't live without. It also showed me the value of being a diverse DJ that could play multiple genres was the level I need to be at, and I pushed myself even harder to develop new skills and new tricks (which is what eventually led me to the cometition circuit).
Question 4: Are you working on any projects/remixes at the moment that my readers should know about and are exciting you in any way? I'm working here and there at the moment on some remixes, but DJing has been taking up most of my time lately.
Question 5: Which do you prefer doing: Dj'ing or producing? Why? I LOVE DJing. You know how everyone has "their thing"....DJing is mine. It's what I do best. Producing, for me, is a great outlet for expression and interperetation, but it just doesn't beat playing for a crowd and rocking out on the decks.
Question 6: What are you listening to right now which is perhaps influencing or inspiring you? Well, I recently transplanted to Austin, Texas, so now I'm hearing a lot of Houston Hip Hop and what we call over here "Dirty South" Rap. This is definitely giving me some inspiration to combining it with Electronic music. I'm also looking out for my friend Bird Peterson to do some big things here soon. He's been putting out some great tracks for a minute now. I'm also really happy with Birdy Nam Nam's new approach. They are super skilled DJs that are producing some great dance tracks.
Question 7: Having worked around and with a diverse and interesting bunch of artists such as Aerosmith, Insane Clown Posse, Son Volt etc, how has that influenced and enhanced the music you do and play? It's interesting becuase sometimes you get surprised with what the crowds at certain shows want to hear. It keeps you on your toes.If in a crowd I have people that want to hear Cut Copy, and others that want to hear Snoop Dogg, I have to do my best to incorporate these elements and keep the crowd hyped. The more fun I'm having while performing, the more excited the crowd gets. I try to make all my sets and tracks/remixes fun. Because of this influence, I also try to make my sets/tracks/remixes cross over to fans of multiple genres (and sub-genres) of music.
Question 8: What are your plans for 2009? World domination? Ha Ha...My plan for 2009 is to book more gigs than I can handle (both nationally and abroad), continue developing more skills as a producer, and try not to get too overheated by the Texas sun this summer. preview

Naturally all of this set me back a fair amount at the last part of the month before payday, but Fuck it, it’s Depeche Mode and 1 David Bowie…what’s a man to do? This adds to my already extensive Depeche Mode Collection on vinyl and CD. AND, it gets better, I got my tickets for Depeche Mode at the O2 stadium in London on the 30th May on their world tour supporting the new album!! 30th May also happens to be my birthday, AWESOME opportunity. I will be going with my best friend Everard and his wife Jeanette, I haven’t seen him since 2005 when I was there to see Nine Inch Nails, I was there when the bombs went off in the Tubes, Everard and I were in one of the ones behind one of the ones which was hit, we missed it by 4 minutes, freaky and scary!!
Quick note before the show, I am sad that Tony Hart has passed away at the age of 83, he created Morph and was instrumental in influencing MILLIONS of children and adults to take up art, a life well lived spreading positive things to generations of children, I used to LOVE his show when I was young....this show is dedicated to Tony Hart

DEPECHE MODE ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE APRIL 21, 2009
January 15, 2009- Groundbreaking, chart-topping electro legends Depeche Mode are proud to announce the release of their long-anticipated new studio album, Sounds Of The Universe on April 21, 2009 (Mute Records).
Eclectic and energized, the band's new release is their most dazzling and diverse album in decades. Recorded in Santa Barbara and New York, Depeche Mode returned to using a lot of vintage gear, from analogue synthesizers to drum machines, in order to conjure up the retro-futuristic arrangements featured on the album. Lyrically the release contains many of the group's enduring obsessions plus more overt black humor than any of their previous collections. Like with their 2005 studio album, Playing The Angel, Sounds Of The Universe features writing credits for both Martin Gore, the group's primary songwriter, and Dave Gahan who after honing his talents on two solo albums, has earned his place as Depeche Mode's second writer. The release also marks a reunion between the band and producer Ben Hillier (Blur, Doves, Elbow), who worked with the band to help give their new album its timeless sound. The first single from the release, "Wrong," grabs the listener's attention from its first stack-heeled, staccato shriek. Over stomping beats, screeching synthesizers, and Dave's overlord chant, "Wrong" already feels like a Depeche Mode classic. Other standout tracks include Martin's velvet-lined Scott Walker croon on the sensual lounge-music ballad "Jezebel," to the sci-fi gospel-blues hymn "In Chains" and "Hole To Feed," which marries modern electronics to a floor-shaking, bone-rattling Bo Diddley beat.
As one of the most influential bands of the post-punk era, with global sales in excess of 100 million, Depeche Mode belongs to a select premiere league of super groups who have survived from the early 1980s with their ideals, creative vision and core members intact. Formed in 1981, Depeche Mode - Martin Gore, Dave Gahan and Andy 'Fletch' Fletcher - continue to win critical and commercial acclaim across the world both in the studio and on the road. All of the band's 11 studio albums have reached the Top Ten in not only the UK and USA but 20 plus countries around the world including Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, and Belgium. Additionally, since their inception Depeche Mode's live shows continue to be a must-see attraction, with the group playing to 2.8 million people across 31 countries on their last tour alone.
Depeche Mode will be announcing additional album details and tour news in the coming weeks. For more information please go to Depeche Mode
(copyright Lydia Selimalhigazi/LYS Design, all rights reserved) Hey peeps, a while back I featured my fiend Bruce of Design Is A Good Idea well, they have just released their Issue #1 of 2009 featuring the work of the artist Lydia Selimalhigazi. Really astounding illustrations from this 25 year old from Paris. Her work has been featured in IDN Magazine, Stone Magazine etc. Head over to her Blog at LYS Design Design is a good Idea Facebook Group Head over to the website on the link above for more info.
The Model – Wicked Game Really awesome reworking of the Chris Isaak classic from the early 90’s. “Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular? t was johnny's idea to record Wicked Game. he's our master producer and drummer extraordinary. he heard it in the car one day and thought we could do it a little more fun and slightly more repressed then the original, which is magical. i don't think we do magical, but fun and repressed” Freezepop – Only You Lovely reworking too of the Yazoo classic from their 1983 2nd album You and Me Both. My good friend Jacqui has started a new blog. She is a fantastically cool girl who is seen around EVERYWHERE in Johannesburg with her Nikon camera taking LOTS of pictures of (Jacqui and Gavin Simmonds from the Vendetta Cartell and two cigarettes and some bendy rounded background) bands and people in the party scene. She has been concentrating heavily on the Skater Punk and Ska scene and is busy working on a book with some other peeps of an important nature. She also paints, talented indeed!!

I bought this last year when I was in Melbourne and have only listened to it today in my car for the first time and HOLY CRAP it is awesome!!! They have fleshed out the beats and kept in the crowd noise. Normaly I am not a fan of live CD's, the production etc always falls well short of what the original concert must have been like, they always sound kind of flat to me HOWEVER, this recording with the deafening crowd roaring through every track makes sense in a kind of strange way. The crowd noise adds to the excitement that Justice obviously generates from this set. It is all the songs from their awesome debut, however they have reworked and tweaked them, I love the extra elements they bring to each track, making them recognisable yet different, almost completely new tracks mashed and trashed up all sexy and sweaty for you. Stress for instance takes its orchestral slant from a cool remix by Auto from around September last year. There are healthy nods to Simian Mobile Disco, The Klaxons as well as Metallica with of course Michael Jackson's throbbing basslines twisted and warped as only Justice can do. The We Are Your Friends breakdown and crowd participation must have been unbelievable being there, just listening to it in my car with the volume cranked up gave me goose pimples, it must have been MENTAL live!! When it moves into the metal like chunky bass heavy beats with metallica chop guitars (I think the sample is metallica) the crowd goes insane! I am still to watch the documentary, it has been a busy beginning to the year, forgive me, I may do so tomorrow evening, after Eli Stone..... I am Dj'ing tonight so I can't watch it then. It is more of a backstage and on road tour happenings and doings type doccy than a concert one, which is cool but also a pity as I would LOVE to see the visuals of this concert. I watched Daft Punks Interstellar 5555 the other evening which was also amazing!! Phantom 1.5 takes the parts 1 and 2 to a whole new dimension, sampling part of the Phantom 1's beat and looping it, these French guys with their sequencers, samplers, filters etc REALLY know how to whip a crowd into an orgiastic frenzied delight!! Their dark yet accessable beats and rock type approach to their music and live shows is truly remarkable and I am sure they will be around for a LONG LONG time.
One of the coolest and surprising bands at the Nevereverland festival were the German band Whitest Boy Alive. They came on and without me knowing it I had the biggest grin on my face the entire time they were playing. I have no doubt that they featured many of these tracks here because I didn't recognise many of the tracks they played, and as I do have Dreams, I can only suppose that they were mostly the new tracks, which were brilliant. My favourite part of their set was when the keyboardist picked up his synth and played it rock guitar style to a rapturous response from an adoring crowd. He even had a bad 'tache too, God bless his little cotton socks. The singer, tall and gangly with a cool Ginger mop-top worked the crowd like a seasoned prefessional, it was a highlight of a concert filled with many highlights!

"The album will follow up their well received 2006 debut Dreams, and takes its title due to the fact that each and every track describes a different rule. No word yet if one of those rules is "make a hit single," but we do know that according to the band that this time around they've taken a more organic approach to recording, with all of the tracks being recorded live with no overdubs or additional effects."
